Cotton in Industry
Various parts of the cotton plant are used to make different products:
Application of Cotton Fibers
The most important raw material for clothing production is yarn. This can be obtained from animal wool or cotton fibers. Cotton fibers or animal wool are spun into yarn, which is then used to produce clothing, fill pillows and mattresses, etc. Other applications of cotton fibers include use in the textile, military, oil extraction, hygiene, and cable industries.
Application of Cottonseed Hulls
Cottonseed hulls are used to produce ethyl alcohol, glucose, lignin, capron, nylon, etc.
Application of Cottonseed
Cottonseeds are used to produce vegetable oil, soap, animal feed, glycerin, dyeing oil, candle material, vitamin A, baking additives, etc.
Application of Cotton Linters
Cotton linters are used to produce cellulose pulp, dyes, artificial silk, photographic film, plastics, building insulation, flooring, and synthetic leather, among others.
It’s worth noting that this valuable plant contributes to 6% of the world’s protein supply.
Role of Cotton in Boosting Production and Employment
Given the numerous applications of cotton and the high potential for its production, along with the possibility of completing the cotton cultivation cycle within the country, it is expected that the cultivation of this product will receive more attention.
Increasing cotton production will boost the textile industry and enable the production of many other products. Cotton production leads to the creation of about 40 additional products, requiring a significant workforce, which will increase youth employment levels. Moreover, increased production will enhance export potential as well.
